Florida’s first ever duelling racer is speeding its way to completion.
Construction on the first duelling racer in Florida is edging closer to the finish line. At a hard-hat tour last week, the press and media were invited to go behind-the-scenes and see the latest building work on Riptide Race, Aquatica Orlando’s newest family thrill.
Promising three side-by-side racing sections with low walls to size up the competition as you zoom to the bottom, Riptide Race will be Florida’s first duelling water slide adding a whole new dimension to the experience. Standing at 68 feet, it will become Aquatica Orlando’s second highest slide.
Most of the 650 feet of colourful slide is in place and the team plan to start testing with the all-important water soon.
See you on the Riptide!
Once the ride opens, racers will zip down the slide in pairs on top of a raft, swinging around tight loops at top speeds and accelerating through indoor and outdoor sections that are sure to turn up the fun.
Brian Andrelczyk, VP of Design and Engineering, said: “The head-to-head duelling section is a world-first element. The racing sections allow you to have side by side interaction with you and two other friends riding in the other tube as you race down the slide to the finish.
“Riptide Race joins an already exciting line-up of family thrills attractions here at Aquatica. We’re delighted to add this new, unique ride to our great portfolio.”
The new ride will welcome riders who reach a minimum height of 42 inches (107cm) to appeal to families with children and is located on the north side of the park next to Banana Beach Cook Out.
On your marks! Riptide Race is set to open in spring this year.
